Anderson named new AES Principal

Atlanta ISD is proud to announce that Lauren Anderson, currently assistant principal at Atlanta Middle School, has been named the next principal of Atlanta Elementary School, effective in June.
Anderson brings 18 years of experience in education and a strong record of relationship-driven leadership to her new role. During her time at Atlanta Middle School, she has focused on creating a positive campus culture built on consistency, trust, and student success while supporting teachers and helping students grow both academically and personally.
Before joining Atlanta ISD, Anderson served as assistant principal at Jefferson ISD. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and her master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M University–Texarkana.
At Atlanta Middle School, Anderson has supported campus leadership development initiatives, including Leader in Me and the campus “Above the Line” philosophy, which emphasizes personal growth, responsibility, and positive relationships. She said one of the most rewarding parts of her time at AMS has been watching students and staff grow together while stepping outside their comfort zones.
“I’ve worked hard to build trust by being consistent, fair, and making sure students and families know I truly care,” Anderson said. “Even though I am not originally from Atlanta, this community has been home to me for more than 20 years. I care deeply about our students, our staff, and the success of our schools.”
As she prepares to transition to Atlanta Elementary School, Anderson said she is excited to build on the strong foundation and culture already established on the campus.
“A principal should be a servant first, and servant-leadership will always be my top priority,” Anderson said. “Atlanta Elementary School has a special culture and a strong legacy of excellence. Mrs. McCord has left big shoes to fill, and what makes this campus great is the people who work there and the incredible support this community gives its schools. I’m excited to learn all I can, build strong relationships, and help create an environment where learning is both joyful and meaningful for students.”
Anderson said she looks forward to continuing the tradition of Atlanta pride that defines the district and community.
“This community loves and supports its schools in such a special way,” Anderson said. “I’m honored to have a part in that legacy and to continue supporting the students, families, and staff who make Atlanta ISD such a special place.”
Superintendent Jason Harris said Anderson is well prepared to lead Atlanta Elementary School into its next chapter.
“Mrs. Anderson is a relationship-driven leader who understands the importance of a positive school culture,” Harris said. “She has demonstrated a deep commitment to students and staff and a genuine love for this community. Atlanta Elementary School is a special place, and we are confident Mrs. Anderson will honor its legacy while continuing the excellent work happening on that campus.”
Anderson will remain in her current role at Atlanta Middle School through the end of the school year, with the transition to Atlanta Elementary School taking place in June.
