English as a Second Language

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Atlanta Independent School District is committed to addressing the affective, linguistic and cognitive needs of students who are identified as English Learners (ELs) by providing them an equal educational opportunity through the English as a Second Language (ESL) program.

Our program emphasizes the mastery of English language skills, as well as mathematics, science, and social studies, enabling ELs to participate effectively and equitably in the learning process through the state’s curriculum, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skill (TEKS) with the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) embedded.

AISD implements an English as a Second Language Program for students who are in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. Our program serves students acquiring English who meet the eligibility requirements.
