TEA releases accountability ratings

The Texas Education Agency released state accountability results for school districts across Texas on Friday. Atlanta Independent School District received an overall grade of 89.

Schools did not receive ratings in 2020 or 2021. In 2019, the district’s overall grade was 90.

“When we compared our scores to those in 2019, there was a one-point difference. That one point meant receiving an overall B rating,” Superintendent Jason Harris said. “However, we did see a considerable jump in academic growth.”

In 2019, the district received a 70, or C rating, in academic growth. There was a 10-point improvement on the 2022 accountability report with the district receiving an 80, or B rating.

At the campus level, the elementary school received a 91, the primary school received a 91, the middle school received an 80, and the high school received an 84.

“We put a lot of emphasis on test scores, and we know that there’s more to our schools than the results of these tests,” Harris said. “Atlanta ISD has a lot to be proud of. We have achieved excellence in academics, athletics, fine arts and elective programs. I’m proud of our students, and I am proud of our teachers. We are going to take these results, analyze them and find ways to do better.”
