The Atlanta ISD Board of Trustees has named Jason Harris as Lone Finalist for the position of superintendent following a special meeting Monday, January 3, 2022.
“Our Board is elated over our unanimous selection of Jason Harris as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent to lead our district into our future. We had the good fortune of watching him for a year and a half demonstrate his ability to lead. He possesses the wisdom, experience, educational knowledge, and organizational skills that we have come to expect in our superintendent of AISD. His unassuming, humble spirit proved to us that he could fill the big shoes left by his mentor and our longtime superintendent, Sidney Harrist. We are excited at the prospect of working alongside Mr. Harris to make every single day a Great Day to be a Rabbit!” said Charlotte Stanley, board president.
Stanley said there is a 21-day waiting period between the announcement of the Lone Finalist and Harris being named the Atlanta ISD superintendent.
“I am extremely appreciative to the board and to Mr. Harrist for this great opportunity. Having worked in Atlanta for a short period of time already, I have witnessed the excellent foundation in place that has been established and look forward to building upon that” said Jason Harris.
Harris recently served as deputy superintendent for Atlanta ISD after spending 13 years at Carthage ISD as high school principal and other campus administration positions. Prior to that Harris served as Assistant Principal for Texas High School in Texarkana ISD. Before moving into school administration, Harris served as a teacher, football and baseball coach for Redwater ISD, Texarkana ISD, and schools in Southeast Texas.
Harris is a Cass County native having grown up in Linden, Texas and now resides in Atlanta with his wife Brianne. He earned his bachelor of science degree in 1991 from Ouachita Baptist University and a master’s of education from Texas A&M University at Texarkana in 2003.
