AISD receives funding for mobile hot spots, Wi-Fi on buses

Atlanta Independent School District recently received $442,000 in funding from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as part of the Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF).

This money will be used to purchase mobile hot spots with unlimited data for high school and middle school students who do not have internet access at home. The district is working with the campuses to identify the students who need the hot spots.

The funding will also be used to equip the district’s fleet of buses with Wi-Fi so students can complete their homework while traveling on the buses. Additionally, 600 Chromebooks will be ordered to be able to continue to send Chromebooks home with students in grades 6-12 as part of the 1:1 program.

“Being able to provide Wi-Fi outside the school walls to our students helps close the homework gap that many of our students face,” said Brandon Prince, Director of Technology for Atlanta ISD. “Atlanta ISD already boasts some of the best technology in the state, and this increased availability of the internet helps ensure the success of our students in their educational journey.”
